Your brake pads are an important factor of your braking system and they are a part that you should pay attention to. Friction is caused when the brake pads compress against the brake rotors and this friction makes your car stop.So your brake pads are working really hard, really often..
The force they need to apply to pull up a moving vehicle is extreme and generates a lot of heat which causes wear on the brake pads.
Worn brake pads means less effective braking which is dangerous for you and others. And so regular assessments of the condition of your brake pads is necessary.

Are there signs a brake pad replacement is due?
Brakes that squeal can be an indicator that your brake pads are due for a change; many pads have a small metal piece implanted in them which scrapes on the disc when your brake pads are wearing out, causing that high pitch noise. However, you should never wait until you hear noises to get your pads looked at, we recommend having your brakes inspected at every service.
It is important to remember that noisy brakes are not always caused by normal wear and any unusual noises anywhere in your car should always be investigated by a qualified professional mechanic.
At Torrisi Automotive we offer a free 65 Point Safety Check with every car service. As part of our Safety Check we inspect the brake pads for wear and advise you if they need replacing. We can also advise the right pad for your local conditions and driving style.
How long before I will need to replace the brake pads?
Brake Pads can last anywhere between 15,000 to 70,000 km's. This can differ due to a number of factors such as; driving conditions and style, regular heavy loads. If your brake pads are wearing out early your mechanic might advise using a heat resistant or heavier duty brake pad more suited to your vehicle.
